Effective record keeping is at the heart of good governance, transparency, and accountability in the Australian Public Service. Every record – from emails and meeting notes to official documents – plays a critical role in demonstrating integrity, supporting informed decision-making, and protecting organisational knowledge. By embedding strong record keeping practices into daily routines, public servants not only meet compliance requirements but also contribute to a culture of trust, professionalism, and stewardship.

This set of learning offerings provides you and your team with the tools, guidance, and resources to support understanding, valuing, and practicing good record keeping – helping ensure that the APS continues to deliver trusted and transparent services for all Australians. These resources are designed to support leaders as they prompt reflection, share insights, and encourage collaboration on improving how records are created, managed, and preserved.

Different elements of this learning experience have been provided by the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC), the National Archives of Australia (NAA), and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
