Data.gov.au is the central source of Australian open government data. Anyone can access the anonymised public datasets.

In addition to government data, you can also find publicly-funded research data and datasets from private institutions that are in the public interest.

More than 10,000 data sets are available from organisations such as:

  • State and Commonwealth Bureaus (e.g. statistics, meteorology, mineral resources)
  • government agencies
  • local councils
  • observatories
  • public collecting institutions (e.g. museums and libraries)
  • research institutes
  • schools
  • universities

Participant benefits

  • Access real-world datasets
  • Publish data
  • Search and filter by data format such as HTML, WMS, CSV, X-NETCDF, ESRI MAPSERVER, XLSX
  • Improve service delivery and transform policy outcomes

Considerations

To publish data you must have an account with an Australian government email address (ending with “.gov.au”, including state or local government addresses).
