What is SES Executive Coaching?
Senior Executive Service (SES) Executive Coaching is a tailored development opportunity which scaffolds leaders as they explore solutions to their complex challenges, in line with the VICEED leadership capability framework, in an APS context.
According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF), coaching is "a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires individuals to maximise their personal and professional potential."
Our APS Academy Learning Partners (Executive Coaches) bring deep APS knowledge and extensive experience coaching SES and C-suite leaders. They partner with you to strengthen your professional development and build your leadership capability before, during, and after your APS Academy SES Program, ensuring you are well prepared, supported, and set up for success.
Who Can Benefit from SES Executive Coaching?
To support your ongoing professional development, the APS Academy is extending our exclusive SES in-program Executive Coaching offering to include pre and post program capability building.
We are committed to expanding your leadership capabilities and effectiveness in the APS, beyond your program commitments.
Our target audience are SES officers, including:
- APS Academy SES leadership program participants or alumni of:
- SES Welcome
- SES Orientation
- SES Band 1 Leadership: A program for adaptive and impactful leaders
- SES Band 2 Leadership: A program for ethical, citizen-centric and adaptive leaders
- Senior Executive Stewardship Program - SES Band 3: A program for stewards and transformative leaders
- For other courses - Leadership & Management
- SES leaders enrolled to participate in their first SES leadership program
- Coaching support is available to leaders who have booked into an SES leadership program who want to optimise their future learning opportunity.
Special considerations
If you are interested in Executive Coaching and are not a future, current participant or alumnus of our programs, please complete the Executive Coaching enquiry form, as we will consider coaching by exception.
Your situation may include but not be limited to:
- SES new to the APS (e.g. lateral hires)
- Non-substantive SES who have been acting in an SES role
- A recommendation by your leader, mentor or alumnus of our programs
- Executive Leaders (EL) participating in leadership programs

Building leadership capabilities through connection and collaboration across the system. Focus on adaptive leadership, values, and leadership identity. 3 in-program coaching sessions. 1 group coaching session. |
