In today’s fast changing work environment, having a culture where everyone feels empowered to speak up without negative consequences will help build trust and confidence in the APS. This is speak up culture and the essence of psychological safety.

This program will help all APS employees, managers and senior leaders understand what speak up culture is and practical actions to help build and sustain it. The materials outline 4 key practices that form the foundation for speak up culture - listen with compassion, show curiosity, speak with candour and act with courage.

The program includes two learning resources:

  1. Introductory guidance – relevant to all APS employees, managers and senior leaders
  2. Manager playbook – designed for anyone who manages a team of people.

Speaking up can feel risky. This program aims to help you build the confidence and capability to act.

This learning experience has been provided by the Australian Public Service Commission in partnership with APS agencies.
