The APS Academy is offering a Pilot AI capability program for Australian Public Service employees in support of the AI Plan for the Australian Public Service. Participants will identify the components that are amenable to AI-enabled redesign, distinguishing between tasks suitable for full automation, those that benefit from human-AI collaboration, and those that should remain exclusively human. They will be able to structure a credible implementation plan for AI adoption within a government function, addressing technology selection, data requirements, governance arrangements, privacy and security considerations, workforce implications and change management.

This learning experience has been provided by the Australian Public Service Commission in collaboration with the CSIRO and Data 61.

Participant benefits

  • Develop direct experience with AI tools for strategic judgement on the capabilities and limitations of AI tools.
  • Explore structured scenarios to identify the components suitable for AI use, design workflows and develop an implementation plan, drawing connections between the scenario and participants’ own agency contexts.
  • Evaluate AI adoption proposals from technical teams and ask the right questions about feasibility, risk and return, and provide informed leadership on AI strategy within agencies.

Suitable for

EL2 - SES Band 2.

Considerations

  • All participants MUST have a GovTeams account and have access to GovAI, this cannot be actioned by APS Academy.
  • Guidance on how to create a GovTEAMS account can be found at: https://www.govteams.gov.au/govteams-official-registration
  • If participants do not have a GovTeams account and access to GovAI they are not able to participate in this Pilot program.
