Learning Technologies
Knowing how to fully leverage the tools and systems available enables more efficient and high-impact learning service delivery.
Learning technologies are a critical enabler of learning service delivery, as all of the many processes involved in providing learning services now rely on a technical infrastructure of various systems, tools and networks.
The definition of ‘learning technology’ encompasses a wide range of products and features that enable the many end-to-end processes of L&D. However, the learning technologies an agency has in place comprise a smaller part of its larger system architecture. Therefore, more general technical knowledge, standards and practices are key to successfully leveraging learning technologies, as well as effective collaboration across other areas of the organisation including IT, security and procurement.
All agency learning systems are implemented within the constraints of common key factors:
- IT infrastructure
- data streams and channels
- policies and procedures
- resourcing, including staffing
- internal capabilities and maturity levels.
Therefore, while the learning technologies in use will vary significantly between entities throughout the APS, and even between different implementations of the same platforms and services, there are many common principles that will apply across these diverse organisational contexts to ensure that L&D teams are able to carry out their work efficiently and effectively.
This page compiles guidance and resources for understanding and leveraging learning technologies, including standards, frameworks and technical considerations that have broad application across different learning systems. Where possible, guidance is also provided for specific and common features and tools.
