Apply Human Centred Design principles to complex problems or opportunities in the public sector. This program introduces the principles, tools and techniques of Human Centred Design and how to apply them to service/policy design and implementation. With the ultimate aim of creating better citizen-centric outcomes for clients and the community.

This learning experience has been provided by the BizLab Academy at the Department of Industry, Science, Energy, and Resources.

Participant benefits

  • Plan and manage projects using HCD.
  • Project scoping and problem definition.
  • User research and ethnographic techniques.
  • Data synthesis and insight generation.
  • Creative stimulus.
  • Ideation.
  • Prototyping.
  • Story-telling.

Suitable for

APS 3 - SES Band 3 and APS employees involved in service or policy design and implementation.

Considerations

  • Highly interactive, immersive and hands-on facilitated program. At the end of the program participants will access a library of techniques to use in their own context, projects and individual pieces of work.
  • The face-to-screen session covers 40~ hours of coursework, which includes:
    • Reviewing self-paced video content.
    • Reading articles.
    • Attending facilitated virtual classes.
    • Tasks (such as interviewing users in small groups).
    • Reflecting on course activities.

Weekly tasks form the basis for classes, so it’s important you can commit to the tasks. You’ll work in small teams for the course, your team experience will rely on everyone completing coursework. Each week builds upon work completed the previous week, so it’s important to make as many classes as possible.

Tools for the course

We’ll use MS Teams and Miro every week of the course. You won’t need a Miro account, but you’ll need to be able to access Miro on a work computer every week. If Miro is not accessible on a work device, you may be able to request your IT department to grant you access or you can use a personal laptop.

Category and User Level

This learning experience aligns with the Engagement and Partnership Craft at the Practitioner level.

Price

$2,200 per attendee for face-to-screen sessions. Payment by credit card.
