What is the ‘Caretaker’ period? Successive governments have accepted that, during the period preceding an election for the House of Representatives, the Government assumes a ‘caretaker role’. This practice recognises that, with the dissolution of the House, the Executive cannot be held accountable for its decisions in the normal manner, and that every general election carries the possibility of a change of government. This session will explain the background to Caretaker and what it means for public servants.

This Mastercraft event will take us through why influencing without authority is an important skill and how to do it and to better understand how to nurture the skill of influencing those around you in the public service to achieve your goals.
