MasterCraft Series - Impact Analysis in Practice: From Ideal to Urgent
Impact analysis is a key component of evidence-informed policymaking, helping agencies understand how policies may affect different groups, communities and stakeholders. While comprehensive impact analysis is ideally undertaken throughout the policy development process, policy practitioners are often required to develop advice under significant time constraints. This session explores how impact analysis can be effectively integrated across the policy cycle while remaining practical and proportionate to the time available.
Using a fictional policy proposal as a case study, presenters will demonstrate how impact analysis can be applied from problem identification through to implementation and evaluation. The session* will explore practical techniques for identifying potential impacts, drawing on available evidence and data sources, engaging with specialist impact analysis teams, and leveraging existing research and consultation activities. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of impact analysis requirements and practical strategies for delivering high-quality analysis, even when working under tight deadlines.
*Please note this event will be recorded. You can view this video and other MasterCraft Series events here.
