Lunch and Learn - Session 17: Track government commitments with AI

Explore how the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) uses AI to monitor and track election commitments across portfolios. This session will show how AI tools can be integrated into complex workflows to ensure comprehensive and efficient reporting and accountability on fast moving and broad ranging issues. It’s a strong example of AI supporting democratic processes and whole-of-government coordination.

Darren Wong
Darren Wong is the Director of the Central Analytics Hub at PM&C, the team responsible for delivering the use of AI to track and monitor election commitments across portfolios. The Central Analytics Hub is also responsible for the use of data to provide key insights and analysis on priority issues to support evidence based policy. In his role, Darren works with areas across PM&C and other Departments to support the implementation and application of new data capabilities and technologies to improve policy and processes in a fit for purpose way.
Before joining PM&C, Darren has experience fostering data capability and encouraging the greater use of data across multiple Departments at both the Federal and State level, including as an Economist at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and as a Senior Economist in the Victorian Government. He is passionate about encouraging innovation and new technologies to improve public outcomes and is optimistic about the increasing application of data science across Government.

Daniel Parris
Daniel Parris is an Engagement Manager with GovAI, a whole-of-government program in the Department of Finance working to enable responsible and effective AI adoption across the Australian Public Service (APS). In his role, Daniel works with agencies to accelerate AI adoption through information sharing, capability building, and supporting cross-agency connections. He also oversees the APS AI Use Case Library, which is a central GovAI resource showcasing real-world AI applications in Government, promoting reuse, and fostering innovation across the public sector.
Before joining GovAI, Daniel worked across governance, sustainability, and policy settings. This included work on APS climate reporting, ESG research and methodology design for global investors, and academic research on sustainable finance and climate risk. Daniel has also facilitated group programs in diverse settings, from interactive public service workshops to immersive cultural experiences in remote Indigenous communities.
