Pacific Engagement: Building long-term relationships through cultural capability

Designed in partnership with Flinders University, our postgraduate Microcredential in Pacific Engagement will equip you with essential cultural capabilities and a deep understanding of Pacific cultures, societies, and economies. The program focuses on developing a comprehensive cultural capability toolkit, enabling you to make informed decisions and engage effectively across the sector. By enhancing your skills, you’ll foster stronger partnerships with Pacific communities and contribute to impactful collaboration in the region.
The duration of learning is approximately 58 hours over 14 weeks. This includes self-paced online activities, virtual seminars and a two-day in-person component in Canberra.
This learning experience has been provided by Flinders University and the APS Academy, in conjunction with experienced APS and Pasifika practitioners.

Suitable for
All staff. This program is ideal for APS employees seeking to enhance their understanding of Pacific engagement and develop the cultural capabilities necessary for effective collaboration with Pacific communities. It is equally suited to people preparing to take up a deployment in a Pacific country, people working with Pacific diaspora in Australia, and those working on policy or program initiatives which involve engagement with Pacific communities. Staff from State and Territory governments are also welcome to enrol.
Considerations
- The program can also be tailored for in-house delivery, providing your organisation a unique opportunity to enhance cross-cultural competencies and strengthen relationships within the Pacific region.
- Upon application, this can be articulated into one subject of credit in the Flinders University suite of postgraduate Public Policy and Public Administration programs.
