By Anne Nguyen, Senior Clinical Psychologist, APS Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Unit
Strong leadership is built on trust, psychological safety, and the ability to create space where people can thrive. To support you to build these skills, the APS Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Unit is running the 6R Relational Leadership Capabilities Skills Lab.
Delivered by registered psychologists, these in-person workshops guide you through practical exercises, self-reflection and feedback in a safe and supportive space. You will learn and apply the 6R Relational Leadership Capabilities – Regulation, Reflection, Relatability, Reciprocity, Repair, and Reliability – which form the foundation of effective, integrity-driven leadership.
Through guided activities and open discussion, you will gain insights into your own leadership style and identify your strengths and areas for growth. This reflective approach keeps learning practical, connecting it directly to your everyday work in the APS.
You will leave with tools to lead with confidence, strengthen accountability and psychological safety, and build resilient teams.
After the workshop, you will have the opportunity to join virtual peer mentoring sessions. These extend the learning by giving you an opportunity to share experiences with other APS leaders, consolidate what you have learnt and apply new skills with support from colleagues.
