Do you want to thrive in an APS workplace where everyone feels a sense of inclusion, connection and belonging?
Then MOSAIC (Multicultural Organisation – Staff Awareness, Innovation and Capability) Magazine is for you.
It is a resource designed for all Australian Public Service (APS) staff to build their cultural capability and help make the workplace a safe and welcoming place for all Australians, including culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people.
Developed in a magazine format, MOSAIC Parts 1 and 2 are now available on APSLearn, which is free to all Australian government public servants. If you haven’t already, register to APSLearn to access this valuable learning resource.
Part 1, first released last year, has been updated to align with the APS-wide CALD Employment Strategy and Action Plan. Recommended for all APS staff, it focuses on expanding multicultural awareness, including:
- raising awareness of racism in the workplace and its effect on employees,
- insights into ways of thinking and how it can impact the way decisions are made, and
- reflecting on personal attitudes and behaviours towards culturally diverse people.
Part 2, just launched in November, and is designed to support the development of culturally aware and literate APS leaders from APS 6 to all levels of the Senior Executive Service. It includes lessons on how to:
- navigate cultural differences to effectively lead diverse teams,
- reflect on personal leadership styles and adapt leadership approaches,
- build and maintain a psychologically safe and inclusive environment where CALD employees can thrive.
Throughout both magazines, participants are given the opportunity to reflect, pause and ponder their own behaviours based on illustrated examples or real-life case studies.
The magazine format is designed for users to dip in and out of, depending on the support they need to build a culturally safe work environment for their staff.
Be inspired to learn more about other cultures, grow your cultural curiosity and become a better leader.
