Consistent with the scope, complexity and scale of a procurement activity, identifying and engaging with risk ensures risk management principles are applied systematically to a procurement activity. This is to identify and manage all risks, specifically technical and commercial risks, to deliver the requirement and value that has been contracted for.  

​Learn to effectively apply risk management principles to identify, assess, manage, and mitigate risk to deliver required procurement outcomes.

​This learning experience has been provided by the Department of Finance.  

Participant benefits

  • ​Identify, assess, and manage risks throughout the Procurement Lifecycle.  
  • Engage with stakeholders to manage operational risks including financial, legal, and WHS risks.  
  • Manage strategies and resources for procurement and contract management risks consistent with entity requirements.  
  • Discuss balancing mitigation strategies with innovative solutions.  

Suitable for

All staff. This course will benefit officials undertaking, or expecting to undertake, procurement activities, whether regularly or on an ad hoc basis.

Considerations

​The following knowledge is assumed for participants undertaking this course.

  • ​Procurement and contract management basics: Foundational knowledge of procurement legislation and policy, the procurement lifecycle, value for money, and contract management. This could be through the Procurement Basics and Contract Management Basics courses or through prior training or experience. ​
  • Risk basics: Foundational knowledge of risk and risk management. This could be through the Introduction to Risk in the Commonwealth and/or Practical Risk Management courses or through prior training or experience.

  • Risk management across the Procurement Lifecycle.
