The Empowering Conversations program is designed to build on existing leadership capabilities to support EL 2 staff conversations across a range of relevant contexts.


The practical component of this program will provide you with an opportunity to practise relevant conversation skills in complex situations to achieve outcomes that are relevant to the real-life contexts experienced by APS EL 2's.

This learning experience has been provided by the APS Academy.

Participant benefits

  • Identify and maintain an awareness of your own behavioural defaults, reactions and patterns.
  • Scan, interpret and diagnose the context of the conversation.
  • Harness the expertise of others, particularly in situations where you have limited expertise.
  • Listen with curiosity and openness to others’ perspectives.
  • Achieve the intended outcomes of the conversation.
  • Hold those involved to account.
  • Build, maintain and draw on a community of trusted peers.

Suitable for

EL 2

Category and User Level

This learning experience aligns with the Leadership and Management Craft at the Lead level.

Considerations

This program caters for mixed-agencies and requires a consideration to maintain cohort diversity in order to enrich learning outcomes with diverse perspectives. As such, a limited number of participants from any single agency will be considered when forming a cohort.

This course has a pre-work component associated with the training and is required to be completed prior to the commencement of the course.

The Empowering Conversations program has a duration of up to 4 months and includes the following components:

  • 1 x pre-program virtual interview (30mins)
  • 1 x workshop (1 day)
  • 3 x group coaching sessions
