Decommissioning is the planned and orderly removal of a learning program, product or platform once it no longer meets a business or participant need. This stage ensures outdated, duplicated or superseded learning is retired in a way that protects participants, maintains learning records, and meets governance, information management and compliance obligations.
When done well, withdrawal is clearly communicated, aligned to workforce needs, and supported by transition arrangements such as replacement learning or redirection to current content. Treating decommissioning as a deliberate part of the learning lifecycle helps the APS maintain high‑quality learning, reduce risk, and make better use of public resources.
