As artificial intelligence becomes a bigger part of the tools, services and systems we use every day, building confidence with AI is quickly becoming an important skill for public servants across the Australian Public Service.
Whether you work in policy, service delivery, communications, regulation, operations or corporate services, AI has the potential to help you work more effectively, make better-informed decisions and deliver improved outcomes for the Australian community. At the same time, it is important that we continue to approach AI in a way that is safe, transparent, accountable and aligned with public trust.
AI capability is no longer just a technical capability. It is a workforce capability.
Across government, agencies are already exploring practical ways to use AI in their day-to-day work. From summarising complex information and drafting content to supporting research, data analysis and service design, AI tools are helping public servants spend more time on strategic, high-value work while maintaining appropriate oversight and accountability.
As these technologies continue to evolve, understanding where AI can add value, how to manage potential risks and how to use it responsibly will become increasingly important for employees at all levels.
To support this growing capability, the Digital Transformation Agency, in partnership with the Department of Finance, the Australian Public Service Commission, the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and the National AI Centre (NAIC), will host the AI Government Showcase 2026 at the National Convention Centre Canberra on 11 November 2026.
The Showcase will bring together public sector leaders, practitioners, researchers and industry experts to share real-world experiences of AI adoption across government. You'll hear firsthand how agencies are approaching implementation, governance, workforce capability, procurement and service delivery, and learn from the successes, challenges and lessons emerging from projects already underway.
Alongside government use cases, delegates will hear from a diverse range of Australian SMEs and industry partners demonstrating practical AI solutions, offering insights into the technologies, services and capabilities helping agencies turn AI ambition into delivery.
Through keynote presentations, panel discussions, agency use cases and live demonstrations, attendees will gain practical insights into what responsible AI adoption looks like in practice and how it can create value for government and the communities we serve.
Whether you're just starting to explore AI or looking to build on existing experience, the Showcase is an opportunity to learn from peers, discover practical applications and connect with others who are helping shape the future of responsible AI across government.
