Day in the life of a senior Pega developer

What does a senior Pega developer do?
As a senior Pega system developer I take the user requirements provided by business analysts and create a business solution for them in the Pega environment. These requirements usually come in the form of user stories, that describe what the user wants to do and why.
Pega is a ‘low code’ software framework that allows for rapid application development. It includes customer relationship management tools, digital process automation, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and more. We can use these components to turn user stories into useful solutions for our business users much more quickly than with traditional development approaches.
Pega has an open architectural design that brings together many business process management capabilities. I enjoy working with Lead Pega Developers on architectural designs that use these processes to quickly enable users to deliver business outcomes.
I also guide and mentor junior Pega developers and help them to diagnose and fix issues with their solutions as well as providing technical support for the Pega applications that our business user rely on every day. The systems that I support help to enforce the country's various quarantine, customs, and immigration and finance laws.
Problem solving
To turn user stories into a Pega application that our business colleagues can use to get their job done better, there is a high degree of problem solving. I really enjoy exploring the possibilities with users and my follow developers before creating a prototype that the users can actually try using.
Because Pega has a lot of pre-built functionality, it is sometimes challenging to implement something that hasn’t been done before. I find this process fun and very rewarding, especially when I can see the value it provides to our business users.
Learning by doing
There are a lot of online course materials and training sessions that I learn from, but I think I learn the most from personal experience developing applications and working with the lead Pega developers.
I like to build well-crafted and (hopefully) bug-free applications, and the Pega environment is one way I can do that quickly and effectively.
