Learning Surveys: Collective suite

The APS Academy has created this learning resource collection for L&D practitioners who are developing and administering learner surveys. We share guidance, advice, tips, and examples to help you build better learner surveys that get the data you need.

  1. Learner surveys: an introduction: An introduction covering when to use learner surveys and things to think about before drafting questions.
  2. Learner surveys: writing questions: A checklist to help write and review individual survey questions.
  3. Learner surveys: the anatomy of a survey: A step-by-step guide to reviewing your survey.
  4. Learner surveys: implementation: Tips for administering surveys successfully and in a way that considers ethics, privacy, and security.

In-depth resources

This collection is a quick start guide uniquely tailored to an L&D context and is not intended to be exhaustive. To learn about evaluation and survey design in more depth, we suggest exploring:

  • BETA’s Pragmatic and Better Practice Survey Guide
  • ACE’s Commonwealth Evaluation Toolkit
  • ABS’s Forms Design Standards

Acknowledgements

The collection draws on material from BETA’s Pragmatic and Better Practice Survey Guide. We acknowledge and thank the Behavioural Economics Team of the Australian Government (BETA) for granting permission to reproduce and adapt their work, and for generously providing feedback.

We also acknowledge and thank colleagues from the Australian Centre for Evaluation and the APS Academy for their helpful review and feedback.
