Procurement is critical to our business. It is how we source the products and services we need to do our job and operate our workplaces. Global government spending on goods and services is responsible for 15% of greenhouse gas emissions. In 2023-24 alone the Australian Government spent $99.6 billion on goods and services. The scale of Commonwealth procurements means that our purchasing decisions matter and can drive change.
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) has developed a short suite of eLearning courses to assist APS Procurement Officials to embed environmental sustainability into their procurements.
There are three self-paced eLearning courses now available through the APS Academy. Each course takes approximately 25-30 minutes to complete and cover:
The Circular Economy and Environmentally Sustainable Procurement Introduction to the Circular Economy in the context of the Australian Government and environmentally sustainability procurement as a lever to achieving environmental outcomes through procurement. Environmentally Sustainable Procurement in Australian Government Shows how the Commonwealth Procurement Rules relate to environmentally sustainable procurement and the different factors to consider when procuring on behalf of the Australian government. Planning for Environmentally Sustainable Procurement Provides you with information and skills required to plan for environmentally sustainable procurement, including actions to take to achieve environmental outcomes in your procurement and contracts. |
These courses can also be found under the Programs tab in the catalogue or as part of the Commonwealth Procurement and Contract Management Training Suite.
Whether you’re new to environmentally sustainable procurement or are looking to upskill, these courses are for you.
More information about sustainable procurement can be found on the DCCEEW website. Making changes to procurement practices can be difficult. If you have any questions or are looking for support to embed environmental sustainability into your procurement practices, please reach out to the team.
