This module is designed to build awareness and capability in the use of metadata across Australian Government agencies. Metadata plays a critical role in managing information assets, including data, information and records, by improving their quality, discoverability, accessibility and governance.

By undertaking this learning experience, you will gain an understanding of metadata concepts, types and quality assurance practices, and how metadata supports information management through tools such as data inventories, data catalogues and information asset registers. You will also explore the roles and responsibilities associated with creating, maintaining and using metadata to support effective information management across government.

Everyone has a role in managing government information well. This module is to help you meet your recordkeeping obligations with confidence, including implementing the Building trust in the public record policy.

This learning experience aligns with the Working in Government Craft at the Foundation level.
