Highly Capable, Future-Ready - the APS Learning and Development Strategy and Action Plan
The release of the L&D Strategy and Action Plan will enable the APS workforce to build the capability they need to do their best work today, and in the future.
Last week, Australian Public Service Commissioner, Mr Peter Woolcott AO released Highly Capable, Future-Ready: APS Learning and Development Strategy and Action Plan.
Developed in response tothe Government’s APS Reform Agenda, the Learning and Development (L&D) Strategy and Action Plan will change how we as the APS approach learning and development, in order to deliver for Australians and the Government.
The L&D Strategy sets the vision for a highly capable and future-ready APS across four pillars of action; capability, technology, governance, and importantly culture.
Through the L&D Strategy, we will foster a culture of continuous learning, to support you to build the skills and knowledge you need to keep pace with the speed of change. The Strategy recognises APS employees are working in an environment where change is constant and workplace learning is a key lever for our success. To respond, we need to develop new skills, mindsets and capabilities. We do this best by learning from our work and through others every day, as well as by accessing resources including frameworks, methodologies, tools and templates, and through formal courses.
The Action Plan enables our APS L&D leaders, practitioners, and partners to enact the practical steps for the implementation of the Strategy over a five year period.
A key priority being the establishment of the first-ever APS Learning Board. Made up of senior APS leaders and external learning experts, the Learning Board will lead the transformation of APS-wide L&D by coordinating priorities, creating partnerships, and driving efficiencies to achieve greater cooperation, coordination and collaboration across the APS learning ecosystem.
The APS Academy will act as the flagship initiative to give effect to the L&D Strategy and Action Plan. We will connect the best of our public service knowledge, resources and experience to build your capability.
