Craft Conversations- Public Service Academies and what they offer

This Craft Conversations session will feature Goran Stojanovski, National Manager People Division, Services Australia, Mehri Doyle, Director of Learning and Design, Diplomatic Academy at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Faye Liu Assistant Commissioner, APS Craft and Learning, APS Academy with James Samana a recognised expert in facilitation and public sector leadership facilitating. They will share insights on where different public service Academies see their role in developing capability across the network.

Goran Stojanovski

Goran Stojanovski - National Manager People Division, Services Australia

Goran’s experience spans across State and Federal Government agencies where he has led large teams across a range of corporate and shared services. In addition, Goran has significant experience in the Customer Contact and Customer Care services where he was leading a global team supporting customers in the Airline industry. 

 

Mehri Doyle

Mehri Doyle - Director of Learning and Design, DFAT’s Diplomatic Academy

Mehri is the Director of Learning Design at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. In Canberra, she served as the Senior Advisor for learning and communications in establishing the Diplomatic Academy within the Diplomatic Academy Taskforce, since July 2015. During this time, she has played a formative role in developing innovative learning solutions including the delivery of the Federal Government’s first MOOC; Lumi, the department’s first learning management system and other projects.  Prior to her position at DFAT, she worked for over 10 years in the private sector, assisting organisations develop award-winning learning and development opportunities that were a positive catalyst for staff development. 
She holds a Bachelor of Economics and Human Resources from the University of Sydney and is an accredited facilitator of Team Management Systems and Neurolinguistic Coaching.

 

Faye Liu

Faye Liu - Assistant Commissioner, APS Craft and Learning, APS Academy 

Faye Liu joined the APS Academy in August 2023 as the Assistant Commissioner for the APS Craft and Learning Branch. Faye has worked in the Policy Projects and Taskforce Office (PPTO) assisting the Prime Minister and Australian Government with policy development on cross-cutting public policy challenges using management consulting methods adapted from the private sector.

Across 12 years working in the Policy Projects and Taskforce Office and its predecessor, Faye led, managed and coached teams for 25 major projects including cross-agency governance teams and policy development. Additionally Faye has led project teams focused on the Australian Government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as initiating projects on a number of key social policy and strategic policy issues across innovation and science, counter-terrorism, cyber security and violence against women.

James Semana

James Semana

James Samana is a recognised expert in facilitation and public sector leadership across the APS, with over 20 years of experience across the sectors. He is co-chair of the Government Facilitation Community of Practice, and has used his experience in innovative learning design, engaging facilitation, and insightful professional coaching to help public sector leaders and their teams thrive. His work as a public servant included work on election commitment level programs as well as new policies, as well as work in regulatory reform, ethics and in the design and facilitation of programs such as Crafting Quality Cabinet Submissions, Senior Executive Service Orientation, and Breakthrough Conversations for SES Leaders. James is now the founder of his own company, Insightful Path, where he works to better the performance of leaders and teams across the sectors.
